DUBOCANI - VIS - OŠTRO

Category: Green Hike
Total hiking hours: 3.5-4 h Price: 75 KM/38 EURO
Departure time: 08:00
Estimated time of return: 19:00
We turn off at Konjic and climb 11 kilometers through black pines and
the wickedly steep gorges of the Neretva Canyon. We’ll park on
the hills around Dubocani…an extremely isolated village that is
said to be the last Bogumil’s to exist in BiH. It’s rough
terrain, our trail will have have been more carved from goats than humans…but
we’ve done it many times and the trail is safe and sturdy. If
cliffy edges give you the heebie jeebies this trip is not for you.
We’ll trek an hour on the west ridge of the Rakitnica Canyon…crystal
clear waters rushing deep below us. When we exit the western ridge we’ll
walk a trail that views both the Neretva and Rakitnica Rivers---it is
absolutely gorgeous!! Further on we run into a patch of pine forest
before we veer towards the peak of Oštro. Only another 20 minutes
walk and we’ll enter the most unexplored area of Rakitnica. The
river rumbles over 500 meters below and the cliffs of Oštro drop
a straight 800 meters down. Words do no justice…it’s a must
see place and only Green Visions can take you there.
**We require boots for this trip due to the rocky terrain. The trek
is a relatively non-ascending and not very long but due to the rocky
terrain we’ve labeled it a hike. You don’t have to be a
‘hiker’ to do this trip but if heights bother you than you
shouldn’t attend this hike.
“CASCADES AND MILLS"

Category: Green Walk
Total hiking hours: 3.5-4 hours
Price: 75 KM/38 EURO
Departure time: 09:00
Estimated time of return: 18:00
The isolated mountain village of Umoljani is situated on the rocky southern
ridges of Bjelasnica that open up to small green valleys towards the
south. We begin our walk here as we gradually rise, passing through
grassy slopes and coming to Seven Mills where we’ll enjoy drinking
clean spring water and a small break. The walk continues through the
small brush before we reach Orlovac – ‘the place of the
eagle’. From here we have a beautiful overview on upper Rakitnica
and the surrounding mountains: Bjelasnica (2067 m), Visocica (1974 m)
and Treskavica (2088 m).
After not more than 10 minutes of walk we come to witness the first
cascades of Studeni Potok, the creek that rushes down under our feet
with over 20 falls into the canyon of Rakitnica. The creek flows only
seasonally so it is a special chance to see its mystical falls. We carry
on through gorgeous landscapes, through Studeno Polje, the open field
which Studeni Potok winds through like a snake. The walk is calming,
and is not particularly difficult. We’ll have time for photos,
a great lunch, eagle watching and simply listening to the soft, wild
nature around us. The entire walk will take about four hours, maybe
more if we want to wander and explore. It’s all up to you!
THE PYRAMID PEAKS
AND MYSTICAL LAKES OF ZELENGORA
BJELASNICA HIKERS PARADISE

Category: Green Hike (low to medium)
Hiking hours: 4 - 5 hours
Price: 75 KM/38 EURO
Departure time: 9:00 AM
Estimated time of return: 18:00 PM
Day one: On Saturday we’ll be wandering on the big White Mountain,
Bjelasnica. We’ll hike up the opposite side of the Olympic Ski
Slopes, much less traversed by hikers and nature lovers alike. The hike
will take us through a pine and beech wood forest up to the Gate of
Wind where you will be either pleasantly greeted by a warm gentle Bjelasnica
breeze, or a variation of its rugged ever piercing south wind. From
here we traverse up to a small Sheppard’s hut (at 1,620 meters).
The hut is a bit more than an hour and a half from where we parked the
Jeep (1,260 meters). We’ll have lunch and enjoy the flowing hills
and snowy peaks of the southeast side of Bjelasnica.
At this point you will decide if you are up for a steep 45 minute climb
to the top of Hranisava (1,953 meters) with its mountain hut (the highest
in Bosnia) or if you would rather explore the valley below around Green
Visions mountain hut. For those climbing up higher, we will have to
find our way along a hidden path through thick pine brush “Kleka”.
Hranisava’s slope is rather steep in some places but offers lovely
views of Central Bosnia and Herzegovina and their peaks, Bukovik, Ozren,
Trebevic, Igman, Romanija, Treskavica, Visocica, Velez, Prenj, Cvrsnica,
Vran, Bitovnja, Vranica and Vlasic. We return by another trail known
as Ramin’s grave, an old Shepherd’s tomb gracing the mountainside.
The trail will lead us down to our Jeep – via more beautiful scenic
viewpoints (vidikovac).
A JOURNEY TO LUKOMIR VILLAGE

Category: Green Walk
Hiking hours: 4 - 5 hours
Price: 75 KM/38 EURO
Departure time: 9:00 AM
Estimated time of return: 19:00 PM
Lukomir is Bosnia’s highest village at 1,469 meters, with its
ancient stecci (medieval tombstones) where villagers stick to the “old
way” of doing things. Traditional dress, the occasional turban
and fez are still worn and go hand in hand with the more contemporary
bliss’ of everyday life, electricity and running water. On the
edge of the village you will be treated by a rare view of Rakitnica,
Obalj and Visocica. You have arrived at the end of the world. Here you
will have a peek into the lifesyles traditions of the Bjelasnica highlanders
that have survived since ancient times. We will fist visit with the
local villagers before heading off into the canyon to witness Peruc
waterfall and the amazing Rakitinca Canyon. Lunch will be served on
a the high ridge over the 800 meter drop into the canyon with stunning
views of Visocica, Prenj and Treskavica Mountains. This place and its
people will leave a lasting impression on you.
