Edin Durmo & Club Scorpio

SCORPIO is a unique sports club in Bosnia and Herzegovina that has been active in several directions. Beside youth education, from which it draws its own guides and sport instructors, the most important part in the sense of promotion is focused on publishing, as well as on participating in many TV and video projects, on the local and state level.
As part of its own library’s promotion, Scorpio has published several journals for the culture of life with nature “Izazov” (The Challenge), which represents one of many club’s activities. In addition, Scorpio promotes the nature of Bosnia and Herzegovina and creative activities in the nature itself. There are several sport books and guides, among which are those being used at the Faculty for Physical Education at University of Sarajevo. The author of all editions is Edin Durmo.
The Club has been active as a firm under the same name (Scorpio d.o.o. Zenica) which is also a supporter of Club’s professional activities (commercial schools for sports in nature, sport-tourist offers in a broad sense, as well as special works at extreme heights and special training of military and police force. Scorpio is one of the very few clubs that has a license for this kind of work.

The main instructors of the Club are Edin Durmo (who is at the same time the director of the above mentioned firm) and Professor Jure Miljak.
Professor Jure Miljak has graduated from the Faculty for Physical Education in Sarajevo. He has been teaching at High Schools in Zenica for the last 15 years. His thesis was unique due to the fact that he was the only one in the history of The University of Sarajevo who attempted to explore the very foundation of alpinism and skiing. So far he has been using his extensive experience in this area to educate the members of the club. Beside his collegue, Durmo is the only instructor in claiming in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with whom he has trained and educated more than 200 climbers, skiers, and alpinists in the post-war period. Besides skiing, climbing and alpinism, he is also an active mountain climber, paraglide flyer and kayaker.

Edin Durmo: All of his knowledge and experience are a combination of more than 25 years of work, active participation in alpinism and other extreme sports, significant international experience such as expeditions and many years of professional work as sport-tourist guide and the organizer of many sport camps and other events. He has worked with all recognized institutions in Europe and former Yugoslavia. He has been a participant in many expeditions such as:
· On several occasions the European Alps with the most significant and most difficult ascents (Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa, Matterhorn, as well as the Italian Dolomites with many difficult and long ascents.
· Caucasus with some of the highest and most difficult ascents.
· Pamir twice
· The Silk Road during the two study residences in Samarkand
· Tian Shan with one of the most difficult 7,000 ascents in the world, Han Tengri (7013 m)
· Tibet with several days during the study in Lasa and a caravan journey through central Tibet and a visit to the highest Buddhist Monastery on the planet (Rongbuk Monastery under the Mount Everest (5200 m)
· Himalayas- a two month combination of tracking and mini-expeditions with a visit to the most important and beautiful areas in central Himalayas- climbing to several ascents of 6,000 meters in the area of Mont Everest
· Rocky Mountains in the United States with several extremely dangerous tops in the canyon, close to the city of Denver
· Colorado Canyon, USA with a study visit to several states and tourist attractions (NP the Valley of Monuments, Arizona, Utah, etc)

The most significant activity of the Club is mountain climbing in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as promotional, cultural and ecological activities and projects. With its numerous publications the Club tries to bring the attention to the unique beauty of Bosnian mountains and the importance of their protection. The latest project of the Club is the Calendar titled "Protect the nature of Bosnia and Herzegovina!"
